Lumineers

Lumineers transform your smile. They work like porcelain veneers and correct many of the same issues, but they offer some key differences.
The main difference between Lumineers and conventional porcelain veneers is thickness. Lumineers measure about 0.2mm, which makes them much thinner. Their thin design closely mimics natural enamel. This creates a discreet and natural look. Because Lumineers are so thin, dentists often place them with little or no tooth preparation. Many patients avoid local anesthetic, tooth filing, and other extra steps.
Won’t The Thin Nature Of Lumineers Compromise Their Durability?
Some people believe the ultra-thin design of Lumineers reduces their strength and durability. This belief is incorrect. Studies show that proper home care and regular dental visits help Lumineers last for decades.
What Cosmetic Issues Can Lumineers Resolve?
Lumineers are versatile and can be used to resolve a variety of different cosmetic dental issues including:
- Correcting teeth that are slightly crooked
- Covering teeth that are discolored or stained
- Closing small gaps between teeth that look unsightly or that cause food and bacteria to become trapped
- Create greater uniformity across the size and thickness of all of your teeth
- Covering cracks, chips, and other superficial damage
If you aren’t sure if your cosmetic issue can be resolved using Lumineers, your dentist will be happy to advise you.
How Are They Applied?
Lumineers offer a simple and usually painless process. First, you will attend a consultation with your dentist. The dentist will decide if Lumineers suit your smile. If they are a good option, you will schedule another visit. During this visit, the dentist will take photographs and molds of your teeth. Each Lumineer is custom made, so the impressions ensure a precise fit. You can also choose the shade to brighten your smile. The dentist then sends the impressions to a lab. Technicians design and create your Lumineers.
About 10–14 days later, you will return for your final appointment. Your dentist will place the Lumineers during this visit. The dentist will bond them over your natural teeth. First, the dentist will check the fit of each Lumineer. Next, the dentist will apply the adhesive and secure them in place. In some cases, the dentist may remove a small amount of enamel. If needed, the dentist will use local anesthetic to keep you comfortable.
Once the dentist places each Lumineer, they polish them to a high shine. You can go home and enjoy your new smile right away. The procedure requires no downtime. Your dentist will also give you care instructions. These tips help keep your Lumineers in great condition for years.
