It is important to understand that your new bite will feel unfamiliar at first because of the new positions of your teeth. Hopefully after a few days the new positions and thickness of your teeth. If you do experience any inconsistencies with your teeth after a couple days please contact us to schedule an appointment for adjustments. It is not uncommon for patients to experience sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures and soreness around the gums. We recommend rinsing your mouth with warm water and salt, three times a day to help ease the pain and swelling. Any residual discomfort can also be medicated with mild over the counter painkillers such as ibuprofen.
Increased salivation is normal because your body is adjusting to the new size and shape of your teeth, it will normally adjust within a week. It is imperative that you continue to take care of your oral health through daily brushing and flossing to prevent plaque buildup.
We recommend you avoid hard foods that could possibly chip, crack or damage your teeth. Smoking can also stain your teeth. In addition, we strongly recommend a custom mouthguard if you play sports and that you regularly wear your night guard if you have one.
