🦷 Aftercare Tips for Dental Implants Surgery 🦷
Proper care after dental implants surgery is important for healing and long-term success. Following post-surgery instructions helps protect the treated area, reduce discomfort, and support a smooth recovery.
The Day of Your Dental Implants Procedure
On the day of surgery, avoid spitting, rinsing, or touching the treated area. Minor bleeding is normal for up to 24 hours. If bleeding becomes heavier, place moist gauze over the site and bite down for 30–45 minutes. Contact our office if bleeding does not slow down.
Managing Swelling and Discomfort
Swelling is a normal part of recovery after implant placement. Apply an ice pack to the cheek near the surgical area for 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off during the first few hours. Drink plenty of fluids, avoid hot foods and drinks, and stick to soft foods for the rest of the day.
Medications and Pain Control
Take all prescribed medications exactly as directed and never on an empty stomach. If additional pain relief is needed, over-the-counter options like ibuprofen may be used. Contact us if pain becomes severe or does not improve.
Oral Hygiene During Healing
Keeping the area clean supports proper healing. Brush and floss gently, avoiding direct pressure on implant sites. Use Peridex oral rinse the night of surgery, then twice daily as directed. Warm saltwater rinses several times a day may also help reduce soreness. Avoid strenuous exercise until cleared by your dentist.
