Home Instructions After Teeth Whitening

Aftercare Instructions for Teeth Whitening
It is important to consider three factors after teeth whitening: how long you whiten your teeth, how frequently you whiten, and the severity of your internal and external stains. Begin your at-home treatment by brushing and flossing your teeth thoroughly. Additionally, place a small dot of gel in the middle of each front tooth compartment inside your custom trays. You may skip the molars since they are not visible when you smile. Insert the trays firmly and wipe away any excess gel without using your tongue. If you experience sensitivity, pause treatment for a day or two and resume when comfortable.
Instructions for Tray and Gel Care
Keep the whitening gel syringes in the refrigerator to maintain freshness. As a result, the refrigerated shelf life is up to two years. After each whitening session, wash your trays with cold water—hot water may warp them. If you are not achieving your desired shade, we recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment.
Foods and Drinks to Avoid
Your diet can affect your whitening results. For best success, avoid or limit contact with:
• Coffee
• Tea
• Soy sauce
• Tobacco products
• Berries
• Carbonated drinks
• Red wine
Sensitivity and Safety Tips
Minor sensitivity is common and usually temporary. Take breaks as needed, and avoid extremely cold foods and drinks if they cause discomfort. Contact our office if you experience strong or persistent pain.
