Home Care After Bridges

Caring for Your Dental Bridge After Treatment
After a dental bridge procedure, it is common for the gums around the treated area to feel sore, tender, or appear red and irritated. This sensitivity is a normal part of the healing process as your mouth adjusts to the bridge and surrounding teeth. Following proper aftercare instructions will help protect your dental bridge and support healthy healing.
Gum Care After a Dental Bridge Procedure
Gum tenderness may last for several days after treatment. Rinsing your mouth with warm saltwater three times a day can help reduce irritation and keep the area clean. Brush gently near the treated area and avoid aggressive flossing until the gums feel more comfortable. Some redness or a raw appearance is expected and should improve gradually.
Eating and Chewing With a Temporary Bridge
If a temporary bridge was placed, avoid chewing gum and stay away from sticky, hard, or crunchy foods. These foods can loosen or damage the temporary bridge. Try to chew on the opposite side of your mouth when possible and choose softer foods until your permanent dental bridge is placed. Avoid biting directly into foods like candy, ice, or crusty bread during this time.
If Your Temporary Bridge Comes Loose
Occasionally, a temporary bridge may loosen or fall off. If this happens, gently rinse the bridge with water and place it back into position if possible. Do not force it into place. Contact our office as soon as you can so we can properly secure it. Leaving the area uncovered for too long may cause sensitivity or allow surrounding teeth to shift.
Daily Oral Hygiene With a Bridge
Maintaining good oral hygiene is important for the long-term success of your dental bridge. Brush twice daily and floss every day. Special floss threaders or interdental brushes may help clean underneath the bridge. Keeping the supporting teeth and gums clean helps prevent decay and gum disease.
